Finding joy in the junk

My 11 yo daughter took this picture yesterday. It was from our back yard. She loves to catch Garter snakes and play with them and then let them go. I don’t personally like them and wanted them out of our yard. But when I found out they eat insects and other small rodents, I was ok to have a couple of them.

Isn’t it the same with life? We can look at the negative things that are happening to us or against us and want to just run from it and get rid of it all. Just like this little Garter snake, the hard things could be helping us get the junk out of our lives so we can be stronger and more impactful people. Sometimes our most unwanted circumstances could be a blessing in disguise.

Today, let’s remember to be thankful for the hard stuff and try to find joy in the junk.

“There is nothing better for a person than that he should eat and drink and find enjoyment in his toil. This also, I saw, is from the hand of God.” Ecc. 2:24
